A single-herb liquid extract of dried berry of Sambucus nigra, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

The European elder is a scruffy fast-growing shrub of hedges, waste ground and anywhere a bird has perched, with brittle stems full of soft white pith, pinnate leaves that smell unpleasant when bruised, and flat creamy corymbs of tiny flowers in early summer. Those become hanging bunches of small purple-black berries that weigh the branches down in autumn. Both the flowers and the fruit have been made into drinks in Europe for as long as there are records of drinks.

Glycerite: Sambucus nigra dried berry, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Raw elderberries and every green part of the elder are cyanogenic and cause nausea and vomiting; only cooked or properly processed berries are used. Do not exceed the suggested amount. Not for use by anyone taking immunosuppressants or with an autoimmune condition. Not for use in pregnancy.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
